Swiss WorldCargo partners with Climeworks to offset carbon emissions using DAC and SAF, aiming for a 20 percent CO2 reduction from shipments and 80 percent net reduction in emissions.
Swiss WorldCargo is offering a new solution to offset carbon emissions using direct air capture (DAC) and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Partnering with Climeworks, the airline will combine DAC and SAF under the “Aviation Tech Pioneer” banner. This initiative aims to remove 20 percent of CO2 from shipments through DAC, while SAF will provide an 80 percent net reduction in emissions.
Swiss WorldCargo’s new service supports the scale-up of critical tech to reach net-zero in aviation and helps customers achieve their scope 3 emission reduction targets. This initiative complements other sustainable practices at Swiss WorldCargo, including investments in SAF, lightweight containers, and modern aircraft.
As the first cargo carrier to partner with Climeworks, Swiss WorldCargo is taking significant steps toward a sustainable future. Climeworks operates the world’s two largest DAC facilities in Iceland and plans further expansion. DAC also offers a scalable method for producing CO2 as a raw material for next-generation synthetic fuels.
Both SWISS and Swiss WorldCargo aim to be carbon-neutral by 2050. The airline acknowledges the need for DAC and other negative-emission technologies to meet ambitious carbon mitigation goals and is committed to driving sustainability in the air cargo industry.
