The Ministry of Commerce calls for State-specific logistics policies to drive economic growth and enhance global competitiveness.
The Logistics Division of the Ministry of Commerce has urged States and Union Territories (UTs) to prioritise developing state-specific logistics policies to meet their growth aspirations. A recent report emphasises the logistics sector’s role in boosting India’s economic efficiency and global competitiveness.
The report recommends that States and UTs design tailored logistics policies with clear timelines for implementation. It also calls for robust institutional frameworks, IT-enabled solutions like real-time cargo tracking, and automated processes to streamline operations. Key focus areas include workforce skill development and promoting green logistics practices.
To improve efficiency, the report advocates for measurable goals and KPIs targeting reduced logistics costs, increased rail freight share, and the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs). Additionally, States should leverage digital platforms like ULIP for data sharing and enhance multi-modal transport systems to reduce costs and environmental impact. The report envisions a sustainable, globally competitive logistics ecosystem, benefiting both regional and national growth.
