SOGEPP (Société de Gestion de Produits Pétroliers, or petroleum products management company) collaborated with HAROPA PORT to boost the river traffic to and from its storage depot in the Gennevilliers port area. SOGEPP runs a six-hectare-wide storage depot for liquid energy products in Gennevilliers’ port Area. This depot is the first site investing in river logistics for developing biobased, sustainable liquid energy products.
HAROPA PORT developed a transhipment facility and delivered it in June 2022 to support the traffic above. SOGEPP could obtain regulatory licenses and develop transhipment infrastructure on the jetty for discharging and filling liquid energy products by the end of 2022. The jetty’s operating permit and the tanks’ commissioning to hold massive quantities of ethanol were obtained in November 2022 after completion of the work for the petroleum product installations.
This project will reduce the carbon footprint for Gennevilliers and support SOGEPP in developing more biobased energy products like Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) and B100, a biofuel made from 100% Fatty Acid Methyl Ester (FAME).
The project received support under the modal transfer aid plan and has been funded by France’s Waterways Authority (VNF) to modernise the barge discharging installations and co-financed by the Greater Paris regional administration.
HAROPA PORT managed the construction of the river infrastructure and further provided €1.1 million to build the jetty and €2.65 million for modification of the riverbanks in its vicinity. SOGEPP bore the expenses for building the jetty superstructure for operations. Teams from Raffinerie du Midi assisted in the engineering and administrative activities.
Petroleum products that cannot be sent via oil pipelines (such as ethanol and biodiesel) can be carried on the river.
