The newly constructed Shivamogga Airport in Karnataka is set to commence operations from August 11, as announced by MB Patil, the state minister for Large Industries and Infrastructure Development. During a progress review meeting for new airports in the state, the minister instructed officials to ensure that all necessary amenities are ready by July 20. This includes arranging for ambulances and other vehicles, opening a coffee cafe, and appointing technical and non-technical staff. The Directorate of Civil Aviation has granted permission to the Karnataka State Industries and Infrastructure Development Corporation (KSIIDC) for the operation and maintenance of the airport, making it the first airport maintained by a state government institution.
The inaugural flight from Bengaluru is expected to land at the Shivamogga airport on August 11, with plans to invite prominent individuals to be part of this historic moment. Additionally, the minister reviewed the progress of other ongoing airport projects in the state, including Vijayapura, Hassan, Rayachuru, and Karawara.
