Crippling road traffic congestion persists at BMCT gates post-advisories. The queue extends to Pregate, Jaskar Bridge. CFSs report <1 trip/24 hrs for import, warning of resulting delays and costs. FIFO not followed.

The Container Freight Stations Association of India (CFSAI) has issued a stark warning to all stakeholders in the EXIM containerised trade at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) regarding the severely worsening road traffic congestion at the gates of Bharat Mumbai Container Terminals (BMCT). Despite previous trade advisories issued on April 5th and 10th, 2025, the situation has deteriorated significantly, with queue lines now stretching as far as Pregate and the Jaskar Bridge.
Member Container Freight Stations (CFSs) have reported a drastic reduction in the efficiency of their transport trailers (TTs), with many barely able to complete a single trip within a 24-hour period for import evacuation. This bottleneck is causing substantial delays in the evacuation of containers from the terminal, consequently increasing the turnaround time (TAT) for trailers and disrupting the entire logistics chain.
The CFSAI highlights a concerning disregard for established protocols, noting that clear directions issued by Jawaharlal Nehru Custom House (JNCH) during a Port Terminal Facilitation Committee (PTFC) meeting on March 27th, 2025, to adhere to a First-in-First-Out (FIFO) system, are reportedly not being followed.
While the CFSAI has communicated the gravity of the situation to the terminal operators and relevant authorities, urging their immediate intervention to resolve the escalating traffic disruption, the association has made it clear that its member CFSs will not bear responsibility for any delays, costs, or other consequences arising from this external traffic congestion. This declaration serves as a crucial notice to all stakeholders who may be impacted by the ongoing logistical challenges at BMCT.
