This move aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision of Net Zero by 2070, representing a crucial step toward creating cleaner and sustainable infrastructure for future development.

In the presence of Minister of State for Corporate Affairs & Road Transport and Highways Harsh Malhotra, Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the installation of solar power plants along the elevated portion of Package-1 (Delhi Portion) of the Delhi-Saharanpur-Dehradun highway (NH-709B) in Phase-1.
This is a major step towards Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji’s ambitious goal of making India net zero by 2070 and promoting sustainable development. Additionally present were Sanjay Sharma, Director of SECI, and Shri V. Umashankar, Secretary, MoRTH.
By utilising solar energy’s ability to power highway infrastructure and lower carbon emissions, the MoU seeks to create renewable energy projects on highway infrastructure. In addition to producing clean energy, this innovative project will act as a template for the construction of sustainable infrastructure.
According to Harsh Malhotra, the MoU demonstrates the government’s dedication to supporting sustainable development and renewable energy, and this collaboration between SECI and NHAI will open the door for creative and eco-friendly highway infrastructure solutions.
According to him, this project will lower greenhouse gas emissions and help create a cleaner environment by utilising solar energy. Additionally, the project will serve as a model for future initiatives by proving that integrating renewable energy with infrastructure development is feasible.
At the conclusion, the minister said that this partnership demonstrates SECI and NHAI’s dedication to a sustainable future and is in line with the government’s goal of encouraging renewable energy and lowering carbon emissions.
