In a significant development, Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, accompanied by Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Gen Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd), inaugurated Utkela Airport in Odisha on August 31, 2023. This inauguration is part of the UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) scheme, which aims to bolster regional air connectivity across India.
The highlight of this inauguration is the launch of a direct flight route between Utkela and Bhubaneshwar, which is expected to enhance regional connectivity and stimulate economic growth. The flight will cover the distance in just one hour and twenty minutes, boosting economic activities and creating job opportunities in the region.
Utkela Airport will operate nine-seater Cessna C-208 aircraft on a well-designed runway measuring 917 meters in length and 30 meters in width. With the addition of Utkela Airport, Odisha now has five airports, facilitating comprehensive development in the region.
