In a notable accomplishment, Union Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that India has achieved 40,000 km of railway electrification in the last 9.5 years.
Speaking at the Indian Railway Personnel Service (IRPS) Conference, Vaishnaw emphasised the importance of using domestically generated electricity in railways, reducing the dependency on imported oil, and aligning with the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).
He commended the railway officials for their efforts in implementing the rolling block system, enhancing reliability and efficiency in railway operations. Additionally, Vaishnaw outlined the government’s plan to construct 5,000 km of tracks annually, showcasing advancements in various aspects of the railway sector, including planning, rolling stock, signalling systems, and infrastructure modifications.
