The Ministry of Railways has achieved a major milestone by completing 2,513 km out of the total 2,843 km of the two Dedicated Freight Corridors (DFCs) as of October 2023.
The Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) from Ludhiana to Sonnagar, spanning 1,337 km, and the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) from Jawaharlal Nehru Port Terminal (JNPT) to Dadri, covering 1,506 km, are the two key projects.
EDFC construction is fully complete, and 1,176 km of WDFC has been successfully executed. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasises that the completion of these DFCs will significantly reduce logistic costs, fostering the development of new industrial hubs and Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals.
