Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Iranian President Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi engaged in a conversation regarding the realisation of the Chabahar port’s full potential. The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to bolstering bilateral cooperation, with a specific emphasis on developing the Chabahar Port into a pivotal connectivity hub. This exchange took place during a phone call where both leaders discussed enhancing regional and bilateral ties, including their participation in the upcoming BRICS Summit in South Africa.
Modi highlighted the historic and civilisational bonds between India and Iran, underscoring the significance of their people-to-people connections. Previously, during the SCO Summit, Modi welcomed Iran as a new SCO member and envisioned Chabahar Port’s contribution to regional connectivity and trade. The leaders acknowledged the importance of strong connectivity in promoting mutual trade and trust, emphasising respect for the principles of the SCO charter and the sovereignty of member states.
