PM Modi invites global investors to back India’s aviation boom and its push to export sustainable green aviation fuels.

On 28 January 2026, PM Narendra Modi addressed the Wings India 2026 event in Hyderabad via video link, inviting international stakeholders to participate in the nation’s rapidly expanding aerospace sector. He emphasised that the country has transitioned from a restricted market to the third-largest domestic aviation arena globally.
- Airport Expansion: The number of functional airports has risen from 70 in 2014 to over 160 currently. The government aims to establish a network of 400 airports by 2047.
- Inclusive Travel: Over 15 million passengers have utilised the UDAN scheme, which has successfully connected smaller cities with affordable airfares.
- Fleet Expansion: Indian carriers have placed orders for more than 1,500 new aircraft in recent years to meet rising demand.
The administration is prioritising domestic production of military and civil aircraft alongside the development of a robust maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) ecosystem. A significant focus is being placed on sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), with the goal of becoming a prominent global producer and exporter of green energy.
PM Modi called on international investors to act as “co-pilots” in this development journey, citing India’s policy stability and geographic advantage. He also highlighted advancements in air cargo logistics, including digital platforms and modern warehousing intended to reduce costs and enhance efficiency for the global supply chain.
