Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal embarks on a UK visit to strengthen FTA talks, boost trade, and deepen bilateral cooperation.

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has embarked on a crucial two-day official visit to the United Kingdom from 18-19 June 2025, reaffirming India’s strategic push to finalise the long-anticipated India–UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and strengthen bilateral economic relations.
Goyal will engage in high-level dialogues with key UK ministers, including Secretary of State for Business and Trade Jonathan Reynolds, Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves, and Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport Lisa Nandy. The discussions will cover FTA progress, financial cooperation, and potential partnerships in creative and innovation-led sectors.
The visit is expected to inject fresh momentum into the India–UK FTA talks, with Goyal and his counterparts set to outline a clear, time-bound roadmap for its conclusion and implementation. The minister will also delve into macroeconomic priorities and investment facilitation with the UK’s top financial leadership.
Goyal’s itinerary includes participation at the prestigious India Global Forum (IGF), where he will feature in the Mainstage Plenary, the Future Frontiers Forum, and a strategic roundtable titled ‘From Agreement to Action: UK–India FTA’. These forums will host global business leaders, investors, and policymakers to discuss the evolving contours of the India–UK economic corridor.
Business engagement remains a key pillar of the visit. Goyal is expected to hold discussions with prominent CEOs and stakeholders from shipping, logistics, fintech, and advanced manufacturing sectors to expand commercial ties and promote cross-border investments.
With global trade dynamics shifting rapidly, this visit marks a pivotal moment in India–UK relations. It aims to translate mutual ambition into concrete outcomes and foster inclusive, sustainable economic growth through stronger trade and investment partnerships.
