At Bharat Buildcon 2026 curtain raiser, Goyal vows export growth and FTAs boost and urges the industry to tap Australia’s housing demand.

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Shri Piyush Goyal today unveiled the curtain raiser for Bharat Buildcon 2026 at Yashobhoomi Convention Centre, New Delhi, setting the tone for India’s flagship platform for the building and construction materials industry.
Government assures industry protection
Goyal reaffirmed the government’s commitment to shielding Indian industry from unilateral actions by certain countries. He urged stakeholders to flag sectors needing alternate markets, assuring them that the ministry is actively working with partners worldwide.
Exports to surpass last year’s levels
Projecting optimism, he declared that this year’s exports will exceed last year’s, underlining India’s resilience and global competitiveness. He invoked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Zero Defect, Zero Effect” manufacturing and “Daam Kam, Dum Zyaada” products to stress affordability with quality.
Australia Market: A game-changer
Calling attention to Australia’s 1 million home shortage, Goyal invited Indian businesses, workers, and financial institutions to step in. He called the opportunity “a potential game-changer” for India’s construction and financial sectors, noting that training and certification are being aligned to Australian standards.
FTAs expanding India’s trade reach
Highlighting India’s growing Free Trade Agreement (FTA) network, Goyal cited deals with Australia, the UAE, Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein, Iceland, and the UK. Ongoing talks with the EU, Qatar, and UAE promise to further open global markets for steel, construction, and allied industries.
India’s strength misunderstood by analysts
He emphasised that India’s true capability is “not being correctly understood” by some experts and media. Pointing to India’s resilience through crises like COVID-19 and sanctions, he said the country now stands ready to expand its global trade share.
Steel exports: untapped potential
The minister noted that India can export 50 million tonnes of steel annually, boosting its export basket with competitively priced, high-quality products.
Bharat Buildcon 2026: A global stage
Scheduled for April 29 – May 2, 2026, Bharat Buildcon will showcase India’s USD 1 trillion building and construction market across 37 allied sectors, including cement, tiles, sanitaryware, paints, and electricals. Goyal urged organizers to expand beyond New Delhi, involve allied sectors, and invite international stakeholders to make it a truly global event.
Concluding, he said, “Let us build infrastructure that binds India together,” framing Bharat Buildcon 2026 as a milestone toward Viksit Bharat 2047.
