TIACA honours Ostend Bruges Airport’s biodiversity project with the top 2025 sustainability award.

The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) has announced Ostend Bruges Airport as the winner of the 2025 Corporate Sustainability Award, recognising its impactful biodiversity programme that integrates environmental care with community collaboration.
The award is part of the seventh edition of the Air Cargo Sustainability Awards, conducted in partnership with leading IT solutions provider CHAMP Cargosystems. The awards spotlight businesses and initiatives striving to make air cargo more sustainable, with winners selected in two categories: Start-Up/Small Business and Corporate/Established Business.
A jury of six industry leaders and sustainability advocates evaluated submissions on innovation, implementation ease, social and industrial impact, and the overall ‘wow’ factor.
Ostend Bruges Airport’s winning project focuses on biodiversity restoration through partnerships with local governments, farmers, and beekeepers. The initiative not only enhances ecological awareness but also directly benefits local communities. It allows residents and visitors to engage with restored natural habitats, exemplifying how airport operations and wildlife conservation can coexist harmoniously.
Chris McDermott, CEO of CHAMP Cargosystems, commended the project as “a truly remarkable initiative that shows the power of collaboration in achieving environmental goals.”
Glyn Hughes, Director General of TIACA, praised the industry’s dedication to sustainability, stating, “Ostend-Bruges Airport is a shining example of what can be achieved when innovation is matched by commitment.”
Steven Polmans, Chair of TIACA, thanked all participants and reaffirmed the organisation’s support in showcasing progress toward a greener air cargo industry.
The official awards ceremony will take place at TIACA’s Executive Summit 2025 in Hong Kong, scheduled from June 24 to 26, where global air cargo leaders will come together to celebrate innovation and sustainability excellence.
