NHAI ramps up efforts with state coordination, emergency teams, and tech tools like ATMS and RajmaargYatra app to manage monsoon challenges on National Highways, ensuring smooth travel for users.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has launched a comprehensive initiative to manage monsoon challenges on national highways effectively. With the monsoon advancing across the country, NHAI has implemented proactive measures to prevent waterlogging and ensure emergency response readiness.
NHAI’s strategy involves close coordination with state administrations, local authorities, and other executing agencies. Inspection drives are being conducted to identify and address potential flood- and landslide-prone areas. Special attention is being given to hilly regions where dedicated Emergency Response Teams, equipped with manpower and machinery, are stationed at landslide-prone sites.
The Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) and the RajmaargYatra app are being leveraged to disseminate real-time information to highway users, ensuring they stay informed about potential disruptions. In urban areas, NHAI is installing adequate pumping arrangements to prevent waterlogging on highway sections.
“We are committed to providing a seamless travel experience on National Highways during the monsoon season,” said an NHAI spokesperson. “Our proactive measures include deploying resources strategically, conducting joint inspections, and leveraging technology to minimize disruptions and ensure safety.”
NHAI officials are also inspecting structures susceptible to flooding and installing warning signs at vulnerable locations. Additionally, contingency plans have been devised in collaboration with district administrations to manage traffic diversions in case of major disruptions.
As part of its flood preparedness strategy, NHAI is implementing geotechnical instrumentation for real-time monitoring on vulnerable slopes and tunnels. These measures aim to enhance the resilience of national highways against monsoon-induced challenges, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity and safe travel for commuters.
For further updates and advisory, highway users are encouraged to stay informed through the official ATMS and RajmaargYatra app channels.
