Trial run of Dwarka Expressway underpasses begins to ease traffic flow between Gurugram, Delhi, and IGI Airport.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has initiated the trial run of the newly constructed tunnel and underpasses on the Delhi section of Dwarka Expressway to decongest the Delhi–Gurugram stretch of NH-48. The trials, running daily from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM starting May 29, 2025, are aimed at assessing traffic behavior, infrastructure performance, and overall safety measures before full-scale operations commence on June 5, 2025.
The trial route includes a shallow tunnel connecting Dwarka/Yashobhumi to the Indira Gandhi International Airport via airport underpasses, and further extends connectivity from Terminal 3 to Gurugram through a right-turn underpass. These connections are set to significantly reduce the load on surface roads and streamline vehicular movement across Delhi NCR.
The tunnel features advanced safety infrastructure including CCTV surveillance, emergency exits, and a dedicated control room. Height restrictions limit access to vehicles under 4.5 meters, with two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and flammable-material carriers prohibited.
Once operational, the expressway underpasses will enhance regional connectivity to Gurugram, Vasant Kunj, Faridabad, Manesar, Sonipat, Panipat, and Chandigarh.
