Grimaldi vessel Grande Svezia marks a milestone at Mumbai Port, discharging 15,000 tonnes of record project cargo.

A significant benchmark in maritime logistics has been established at Mumbai Port following the record-scale discharge of project cargo from the Grimaldi Group’s next-generation vessel, the Grande Svezia.
The Roll-on/Roll-off (Ro-Ro) vessel berthed at the OCT-2 facility within the Indira Container Terminal on 03 December 2025. During this call, which was only its second voyage since being delivered in September 2025, the ship discharged an unprecedented 2,196 units. This consignment, consisting of rolling freight and associated spares, exceeded 15,000 metric tonnes and surpassed 30,000 cubic metres in volume.
The operation was managed by Oasis Shipping, a subsidiary of the Samsara Group acting as the agent for the Naples-based Grimaldi Group. Industry experts suggest this achievement sets a new standard for operational efficiency and project cargo handling capabilities for the Indian port sector.
Since February 2025, the Grimaldi Group has maintained a consistent presence at Mumbai Port through its Asia–Europe service. These monthly calls typically involve vessels sailing from Europe towards the Persian Gulf, primarily transporting new vehicles, buses, wheel loaders, and heavy trucks.
More recently, the shipping line has expanded its operations to include westbound calls at Mumbai for vessels arriving from Asia. This strategic move has created direct maritime links between China and India as part of the East Asia – Persian Gulf service. Moving forward, the Grimaldi Group intends to bolster its Indian operations and further increase the frequency of its shipping services to meet rising demand.
