The two leaders exchanged views on the evolving conflict and agreed to stay in close contact as diplomatic efforts for regional peace intensify.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a call from US President Donald Trump on 24 March 2026, during which the two leaders held a substantive exchange on the evolving situation in West Asia.
Modi reiterated that India supports de-escalation and the restoration of peace at the earliest. He underlined the importance of ensuring that the Strait of Hormuz remains open, secure, and accessible, describing it as vital for global peace, stability, and economic well-being. Both leaders agreed to remain in close contact as efforts to promote peace and stability in the region continue.
The call comes a day after Trump announced a five-day pause on planned military strikes against Iranian energy infrastructure, citing productive diplomatic conversations with Tehran, and as global attention remains fixed on the fate of one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints.
