Maruti Suzuki India has teamed up with the Delhi Rail Division of Northern Railway to streamline the transportation of its Jimny cars to western ports through freight trains. The collaboration aims to enhance automobile exports, with the first freight train carrying 98 cars flagged off from Farukhnagar station to Pipavav Port on the West Coast.
The inaugural shipment of 25 NMG (New Modified Goods) wagons signifies a major stride in Maruti Suzuki’s strategy to transport vehicles to Western ports. These cars will be transhipped via vessels to various African nations. Sukhvinder Singh, Divisional Railway Manager, emphasised that this initiative not only contributes to additional loading and revenue for the Railways but also aligns with eco-friendly transportation practices.
The use of trains for automobile transportation offers a hassle-free alternative to roadways and has led to a remarkable 75 percent increase in automobile loading during the current financial year compared to the same period last year.
The collaboration between Maruti Suzuki and Delhi Rail Division exemplifies a commitment to efficient and environmentally conscious logistics, paving the way for further advancements in the automobile export sector.
