Maharashtra’s new logistics policy targets ₹30,000 crore revenue and 5 lakh jobs in five years.
The Maharashtra government has approved a comprehensive logistics policy aiming to generate ₹30,000 crore in revenue within five years and create approximately 5,00,000 direct and indirect jobs. This ambitious policy focuses on reducing logistics costs by 4-5 percent from the current 14-15 percent, minimising logistics time, and implementing green initiatives to reduce carbon emissions.
Key stakeholders, including the Maharashtra Maritime Board, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority, Mumbai Port Trust, State Road Development Corporation, and the Maharashtra Airport Development Company, played a significant role in formulating this policy. The policy aims to attract domestic and foreign investment, establishing Maharashtra as a global logistics hub.
An International Mega Logistics Hub will be developed on 2,000 acres in the Navi Mumbai-Pune area, near the new international airport in Panvel. This hub, with a ₹1,500 crore provision, will connect with industrial estates like Taloja, Patalganga, and Chakan. Additionally, the Nagpur-Wardha National Mega Logistics Hub will be established on 1,500 acres, receiving another ₹1,500 crore, leveraging Nagpur’s central location and connectivity.
Five state logistics hubs will be developed on 500 acres each in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar-Jalna, Thane-Bhiwandi, Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg, Pune-Purandar, and Palghar-Vadhavan, with a total provision of ₹2,500 crore. Regional hubs will be established on 300 acres each in Nanded-Deglur, Amravati-Badnera, Kolhapur-Ichalkaranji, Nashik-Sinnar, and Dhule-Shirpur, receiving ₹1,500 crore in total.
To address urban space constraints, multi-purpose logistics parks with a minimum built-up area of 20,000 square feet will be established, requiring at least ₹5 crore investment. MSMEs within and outside these parks will receive financial and non-financial incentives, including interest subsidies, stamp duty concessions, technology improvement assistance, and industrial-rate electricity.
This policy aims to propel Maharashtra into a leading logistics hub, fostering economic growth and development across the state, according to a statement from the Chief Minister’s office.
