Maersk marks a century in Japan, honoring long-term partner Mitsubishi Logistics.
Maersk, a leader in global logistics, celebrated a century since its first vessel, “LEISE MAERSK,” docked in Yokohama in 1924. This milestone also highlights its enduring partnership with Mitsubishi Logistics Corporation (MLC), established in 1928. The centennial event, held on June 4, 2024, was co-hosted by Robert Maersk Uggla, Toru Nishiyama, and SAITO Hidechika. Distinguished guests included INADA Masahiro, YAMANAKA Takeharu, FUJIKI Yukio, and Peter Taksøe-Jensen.
Reflecting on the collaboration, Toru Nishiyama expressed gratitude for Japan’s support and looked forward to continued growth and innovation. The event coincided with the 165th anniversary of the Port of Yokohama, marked by a Floral Tribute Ceremony at the Yokohama Dockworkers’ Memorial Tower, honouring the dedication of port workers.
Saito Hidechika noted the resilience and cooperation between Maersk and MLC, highlighting their mutual trust and adaptability amid industry changes. Over the century, Maersk has expanded its presence in Japan, with offices in Tokyo, Yokohama, and Osaka, supporting various sectors. In line with its integrated strategy, Maersk’s commitment to sustainability is underscored by a recent MoU with the City of Yokohama and Mitsubishi Gas Chemical to develop green methanol bunkering infrastructure, contributing to its 2040 net-zero emission goal.
