US President Donald Trump agreed to a two-week ceasefire with Iran just hours before a deadline he had set for Tehran to capitulate, warning of severe consequences if tensions escalated further.
Reports indicate that the agreement followed a last-minute diplomatic intervention led by Pakistan, helping both sides step back from immediate conflict.
Iran has also confirmed its participation in the ceasefire, stating it will ensure safe passage for maritime traffic through the critical Strait of Hormuz during the two-week period. However, Iranian authorities made it clear that the agreement does not mark the end of the conflict. In a statement, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council emphasized that while hostilities are paused, military readiness remains intact, warning that any provocation would be met with a strong response.
