The German warehousing and intralogistics giant, Jungheinrich, opened a new integrated facility in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra. The facility has a world-class equipment and spare parts warehouse, workshop and training centre for its all-electric forklifts, trucks, and other equipment. Bhiwandi has a solid warehousing customer base and a nearby seaport for smooth operations.
The Indian market produces around 20,000 units of material handling equipment annually and is expected to grow at a double-digit CAGR soon. Jungheinrich has been present in India for a decade and is known for automation and an environmentally sustainable approach. The company aims to modernise warehouse operations in India and substantially expand its capacity to meet the burgeoning demand for forklift trucks and other equipment.
Jungheinrich plans to replace the diesel-spewing forklifts and old warehouse equipment in the Indian market with new energy-efficient and time-saving machines like Automotive Guided Vehicle (AGV) and position itself as an ‘automation solution provider’. It also intends to expand its product line by deploying the latest technology from Europe and China.
The German company takes many measures towards sustainable operations, including planting trees for every piece of equipment sold and recycling the old ones. They also refurbish equipment from the rental market and resell them to reduce their carbon footprint and save the resources from ending up as scrap. Reconditioning used equipment saves around 80 percent of carbon dioxide emissions compared to new production.
