JD(U), recently back in the NDA alliance, supports one-nation-one-election for reduced financial burden and logistical ease. However, it opposes including local body polls in the synchronised process.
The Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) has endorsed the one-nation-one-election concept, citing benefits such as minimised financial burden, policy continuity, and streamlined logistics. The party, recently reuniting with the NDA alliance, conveyed its support through a delegation led by General Secretary Sanjay Jha and Parliamentary Party Leader Rajeev Ranjan Singh.
JD(U) emphasises the logistical advantages of simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha and state legislatures, underlining the importance of strengthening good governance. The delegation, addressing the one-nation-one-election committee led by former President R N Kovind, stressed the economic growth potential, aligning with the views of business associations like CII, Ficci, and Assocham.
In a memorandum to the Kovind panel, JD(U) clarified its logistics perspective. While advocating simultaneous panchayat and municipality elections, the party insists on keeping them separate from the House of the People and state legislature polls. This nuanced approach seeks to manage the logistics efficiently and maintain the integrity of the electoral processes.
