InterGlobe Enterprises partners with Archer Aviation to introduce electric air taxis in India by 2026.
InterGlobe Enterprises, the parent company of IndiGo, collaborates with US-based Archer Aviation to introduce an all-electric air taxi service in India by 2026. The service will connect Connaught Place in Delhi to Gurugram in just seven minutes.
Archer Aviation will provide 200 electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft capable of carrying four passengers and a pilot. These aircraft, functioning similarly to helicopters but with reduced noise and enhanced safety, will launch initially in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru.
The seven-minute flight is estimated to cost between ₹2,000 to ₹3,000. Discussions with the Federal Aviation Administration for aircraft certification are underway, with expectations for certification next year. Once certified, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation will initiate the certification process.
Archer Aviation plans to commence operations in India in 2026, aiming to deploy 200 of its eVTOL aircraft. The company is in talks with various municipalities regarding infrastructure for flight operations and plans to utilise InterGlobe’s resources for the joint venture. Manufacturing facilities in the US will initially produce up to 650 planes, with future plans to expand to 2,000. Archer Aviation is open to manufacturing in India in the future.
