Geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan cause concern among foreign importers, with cargo delays and increased scrutiny on shipments to Türkiye.

Foreign importers are closely monitoring elevated geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan, as the situation leads to cargo movement slowdowns at some Indian ports. Exporters report increased enquiries from overseas clients seeking updates, particularly from American buyers who have shifted focus to India due to high tariffs on Chinese goods.
While exporters downplay major trade concerns, they acknowledge disruptions. There are delays in banks processing Letters of Credit (LoCs) for shipments to Türkiye, given its support for Pakistan. Some exporters report that buyers have cut short visits or cancelled planned trips to India.
“There were alerts for ports such as Chennai, due to which cargo movement slowed a bit,” said Rafeeque Ahmed. A Gujarat-based garment exporter noted increased interest from buyers previously sourcing from China, but also heightened anxiety as tensions escalated.
