India’s Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has announced a major infrastructure transformation. The government’s primary focus is to transition the nation’s road network into electric highways, accommodating electric buses and trucks. This shift is anticipated to significantly reduce logistics costs by up to 30 percent compared to diesel-fueled transport, thus addressing India’s mounting fuel import bill, projected to reach Rs 25 lakh crore due to the growth of the automotive industry.
This ambitious endeavour aims to reduce fuel dependence, cut pollution, and make India’s logistics more sustainable. Additionally, there is a growing effort to replace diesel construction equipment with methanol-powered alternatives, accompanied by eco-friendly initiatives like carbon credit programs and large-scale afforestation projects.
