India clocks $3.09 billion in mobile exports in May, a 74% YoY jump; $5.5 billion exported in April-May FY26.

India’s mobile phone exports are off to a record-breaking start in FY26, with May alone witnessing exports worth $3.09 billion, a 74% surge year-on-year, according to Union Minister for Railways, Electronics, and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw. The April-May period recorded total mobile exports of $5.5 billion, underscoring the growing strength of India’s electronics manufacturing sector.
Government-backed production-linked incentive (PLI) schemes have been instrumental in driving this momentum, attracting global giants like Apple and Samsung to deepen their manufacturing presence in the country. Vaishnaw also noted that electronics exports during the same period touched $8.2 billion, marking a 47% increase over the previous year.
India has now climbed from the fifth to the third spot in global electronics exports within a single fiscal, with FY25 electronics exports peaking at ₹3.27 lakh crore, including ₹2 lakh crore from mobile phones.
Over the past decade, the electronics sector has grown fivefold to ₹11 lakh crore and generated 25 lakh jobs, many for women. Apple has reaffirmed its commitment to India, solidifying the country’s status as a key global supply chain hub.
