India’s Ministry of Shipping and Ports is fast-tracking the development of green hydrogen export infrastructure at three key ports – Kandla, Paradip, and Tuticorin. These ports will undergo essential upgrades to facilitate the storage, handling, and bunkering of green hydrogen, green ammonia, and their derivatives.
India is working towards the goal of exporting approximately 5 million tonnes of green hydrogen and its derivatives annually by 2030, aligning with the National Green Hydrogen Mission. Hydrogen, with applications in industries like fertilisers and petrochemicals, and its low-carbon derivatives, can revolutionise sectors such as shipping, metro rail, and trains.
Sources indicate that the Odisha government is in the process of allocating land around Paradip Port for green hydrogen manufacturing. Ports like Kandla and Tuticorin are actively inviting global interest and earmarking land for green hydrogen hubs, seeking government grants and viability gap funding for infrastructure development.
