Nitin Gadkari announces plans to reduce logistics costs to 9 percent within two years.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, revealed that India aims to lower logistics costs to single digits within the next two years. Speaking at an event organised by NITI Aayog, Gadkari highlighted the ministry’s ongoing work on highways and expressways to streamline transportation, bringing logistics costs down to 9 percent.
He also mentioned that the National Council of Applied Economic Research estimates logistics costs in India currently range from 7.8 percent to 8.9 percent of GDP. Further, Gadkari spoke on India’s growing biofuel sector, especially in methanol production, and outlined the country’s potential in exporting alternative fuels.
The minister emphasised the use of recycled materials like tyre powder and plastic in road construction, reducing reliance on imported bitumen. He also addressed stubble burning, stating efforts are being made to process crop waste to tackle seasonal air pollution while boosting farmer incomes.
