Indian Railways posts 135.46 million tonnes of freight loading in June 2024, up 10.07 percent from last year.
Indian Railways achieved a freight loading of 135.46 million tonnes in June 2024, marking a significant 10.07 percent increase from 123.06 million tonnes in June 2023, according to official figures released on Tuesday. Freight revenue for June 2024 also saw an 11.1 percent rise, reaching ₹14,798.11 crores, compared to ₹13,316.81 crores in the same month last year.
Commodity-wise, the railways loaded 60.27 million tonnes (MT) of coal (excluding imported coal), 8.82 MT of imported coal, 15.07 MT of iron ore, 5.36 MT of pig iron and finished steel, 7.56 MT of cement (excluding clinker), 5.28 MT of clinker, 4.21 MT of foodgrains, 5.30 MT of fertilisers, 4.18 MT of mineral oil, 6.97 MT of containers, and 10.06 MT of other goods in June 2024.
Under the “Hungry For Cargo” initiative, Indian Railways has focused on enhancing the ease of doing business and improving service delivery at competitive prices. This customer-centric approach and the efforts of business development units have been instrumental in achieving these impressive results, the statement added.
