In a major initiative to celebrate India’s maritime history, Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal announced plans for the Indian Maritime Heritage Conclave, scheduled for December 2024. During a meeting with leading archaeologists, museologists, and historians, the Minister discussed the significance of promoting India’s maritime legacy, which spans over 10,000 years.
The conclave will feature global experts who will explore topics such as the influence of language, literature, art, and architecture on maritime culture. It will also showcase traditions, cuisine, and sports from India’s coastal regions, offering a comprehensive celebration of the nation’s seafaring heritage.
Sonowal emphasised that India’s maritime history is both a reflection of its past and a beacon for the future. A committee will soon develop a detailed concept plan for the event, which aims to position India as a global leader in maritime conservation and heritage.
