BLW dispatches the sixth 3300 HP locomotive to Mozambique, advancing a 10-unit export order and boosting India’s global rail presence.

India’s railway manufacturing strength received another global boost as Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW) shipped its sixth indigenously built 3300 HP AC–AC diesel-electric locomotive to Mozambique on 15 December 2025. The dispatch marks steady progress in a 10-locomotive export order, executed through RITES under a dedicated manufacturing and export contract.
The rollout has been gaining momentum through the year. Two locomotives were delivered in June, followed by one each in September and October. The fifth unit departed on 12 December, with the sixth following just three days later, underscoring BLW’s accelerated production pace.
Built for Cape Gauge (1067 mm) rail networks, the 3300 HP locomotives can reach speeds up to 100 kmph. Their modern cabs come equipped with international-standard amenities, from a refrigerator and hot plate to a mobile holder and ergonomic controls, designed to enhance driver comfort and efficiency.
Based in Varanasi, BLW has emerged as a rising export hub for advanced locomotives under Indian Railways. Since 2014, it has supplied units to Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Mozambique, while Indian-made rail equipment has also reached Europe, Australia, Canada and Mexico.
The latest export reinforces India’s commitment to “Make in India” and “Make for the World”, showcasing the country’s growing capability to deliver world-class rolling stock tailored to diverse global rail systems.
