India and Russia agree to deepen agricultural trade, boost exports, and strengthen bilateral cooperation.

In a significant step toward strengthening agricultural cooperation, Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan met H.E. Mr Dmitry Patrushev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, at Krishi Bhawan today.
The discussions centred on expanding agricultural trade between the two nations, with India pushing for greater market access for its farm products in Russia. Minister Chouhan highlighted India’s priorities: ensuring food security, enhancing farmer incomes, and providing nutritious food to citizens.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to balance trade, formalise collaboration through a proposed MoU, and strengthen technical partnerships. Areas of focus included seed traceability systems, innovation in agritechnology, and student academic exchanges.
Russia expressed keen interest in boosting imports of Indian agricultural products, while India emphasised timely resolution of outstanding trade issues.
The meeting also reflected the broader vision of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, “the world is one family”, underlining international cooperation for the welfare of farmers.
The high-level Russian delegation included Maksim Markovich (Deputy Minister of Agriculture), Denis Alipov (Ambassador of Russia to India), and Sergey Dankvert (Head of Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance). From India, Secretary Shri Devesh Chaturvedi, senior officials from MEA, DARE, DAHD, and other dignitaries joined the talks.
The outcome marks another step in the longstanding India-Russia partnership, now focused on agri-trade, education, and innovation, opening doors for stronger ties in global food security and agricultural growth.
