Railway Minister reviews Alstom Savli, highlights India’s export growth and skill-building in the global rail sector.

Union Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw visited Alstom’s Savli facility in Vadodara, spotlighting India’s rapid rise as a global exporter of rail technology. He reviewed the plant’s maintenance practices and praised its custom-built solutions for global markets. Advocating innovation, the Minister proposed a joint training programme between Indian Railways, Alstom, and Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, and urged General Managers to undertake exposure visits to the facility.
Savli is a key contributor to India’s “Make in India, Make for the World” vision, producing modern rail systems for international projects. Since 2016, over 1,000 rail cars, including 450 from Savli for Australia, have been exported. The unit has also shipped 3,800+ bogies to countries like Germany and Brazil, and over 4,000 modules to Austria. Additionally, 5,000+ propulsion systems have been dispatched from Alstom’s Maneja unit.
India is leading 27 global signalling projects, while over 3,400 Indian engineers are working across 21 international Alstom sites. The Minister emphasised that growing exports and high-skilled training are driving local employment and raising India’s global standing in the railway sector.
