Ikea collaborates with logistics firm Rhenus to establish advanced warehouse for Delhi-NCR expansion.
Swedish furniture giant Ikea has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with logistics company Rhenus, signaling its intent to expand operations in the Delhi-NCR region. The partnership entails Rhenus constructing a cutting-edge warehouse capable of housing and fulfilling orders for over 7000 Ikea products.
In a statement, Ikea emphasised that this collaboration aims to streamline doorstep delivery services in Delhi-NCR, marking a significant step in its Indian expansion. With plans to fulfil a majority of orders within 24 hours, Ikea underscores the strategic importance of this initiative. Integration of advanced technology is expected to bolster flexibility and cost-efficiency in managing Ikea’s supply chain.
Saiba Suri, Country Customer Fulfilment Manager at Ikea India, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, citing Rhenus’ expertise and global experience as invaluable assets. Ikea plans to launch its omni-channel presence in Delhi-NCR by mid-2025, catering to consumers across the region and neighboring markets.
Highlighting the burgeoning demand for home furnishings in cities like Delhi, Noida, and Gurgaon, Ikea views the northern region as a key growth area. The warehouse, located in Gurgaon, is slated to commence operations early next year, serving as Ikea’s first fully outsourced central distribution center in India. Integrated with electronic data interchange linked to Rhenus’ Warehouse Management System, the facility aims for seamless and efficient transactions.
The collaboration between Ikea and Rhenus builds upon a longstanding partnership dating back to 1988. Over four decades, this partnership has witnessed significant milestones in logistics and home delivery services across multiple countries, including various European nations like Germany, Poland, Italy, and Bulgaria.
