Commerce Secretary chairs first meeting to create unified strategy platform for boosting India’s textile exports.

The inaugural meeting of the Task Force on Textiles Exports was held on June 10, 2025, at Vanijya Bhawan, New Delhi, under the chairmanship of Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal. The session brought together key stakeholders to outline strategies for increasing India’s share in global textile exports.
The task force aims to create a unified platform for resolving critical challenges faced by the sector, promoting active collaboration between ministries, export councils, and industry bodies. Discussions spanned the entire textile value chain, covering ESG compliance in garment units, renewable energy adoption, and adaptation to European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).
Key focus areas included enhancing e-commerce in exports, simplifying regulations, skilling, branding, support for MSMEs, certification assistance, and schemes like RoDTEP and PM MITRA Parks. Issues related to jute diversification and GI tagging were also addressed.
It was decided that sub-task forces led by respective ministries will work with industry and councils to develop actionable recommendations, aligning efforts with the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.
