Goa’s Mormugao Port to restart container services, lowering costs and enhancing trade opportunities for industries.

Goa is set to re-emerge as a major maritime hub with the revival of container services at Mormugao Port. Transport and Industries Minister Mauvin Godinho announced the development during the Trade Meet 2025, organised by Delta Ports Mormugao Terminal with the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) and Goa Industrial Development Corporation (Goa-IDC).
He highlighted that enhanced facilities, including new cranes, would reduce logistics costs and create fresh opportunities for local industries, especially pharmaceuticals, where Goa contributes significantly to global output.
Goa-IDC chairman Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco stressed the importance of efficient logistics for industrial growth, while MPA deputy chairperson Vinayak Rao noted that the port, despite setbacks like the mining ban, is regaining momentum under a 30-year concession with Delta Ports.
Goa-IDC managing director Pravimal Abhishek, IAS, said MSMEs will gain directly as they will no longer need to rely on distant ports like JNPT or Navi Mumbai. Delta Ports MD Shamil Ahmed added that improved connectivity and infrastructure would ensure faster turnaround and cost-effective trade solutions.
