EU approves 102 new Indian fishery establishments, strengthening seafood exports, especially shrimps and cephalopods.

India’s seafood export sector has received a major boost with the European Union (EU) approving 102 new fishery establishments for exports to its member states. The move underscores confidence in India’s food safety standards and export inspection systems, while enhancing market access for products like aquaculture shrimps, squid, cuttlefish, and octopus.
The listing follows a series of high-level meetings in New Delhi and Brussels involving Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, senior Commerce officials, and EU representatives. The discussions highlighted India’s robust control mechanisms overseen by the Export Inspection Council (EIC), which ensure compliance with stringent EU norms.
This development is expected to increase export volumes, create more employment opportunities, and enhance foreign exchange earnings for the country. The EU remains one of the most lucrative and quality-driven markets for Indian seafood, and the approval provides exporters across coastal states and union territories greater opportunities to diversify and expand trade.
The Department of Commerce reaffirmed its support for exporters through policy facilitation, infrastructure upgrades, and capacity-building initiatives.
