DHL Express has entered a seven-year agreement with World Energy to purchase sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) through sustainable aviation fuel certificates (SAFc). This deal, extending to 2030, is one of the longest and largest SAFc agreements in the aviation sector.
Under the SAFc system, emissions and environmental attributes are separated from the fuel itself, ensuring accurate third-party verification of emission reductions. DHL will use SAFc and offer environmental attributes to its customers through the GoGreen Plus service, reducing logistical costs.
The certificates will comply with Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials standards and be monitored for traceability. This partnership is expected to cut around 1.7 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions, equivalent to DHL operating carbon-neutral for a year in the Americas.
