Deutsche Bahn has confirmed that it will sell its logistics subsidiary, DB Schenker, as a unified entity, choosing this approach over breaking it into smaller units. The decision was reached after months of examining various alternatives. While no specific timeline has been set for the sale, it is expected to be a complex, long-term project.
The proceeds from the sale will remain within the state-owned Deutsche Bahn group. This move is aligned with Deutsche Bahn’s plan to focus on its Strong Rail Strategy and core rail business by divesting its forwarding business. DB Schenker, one of the world’s largest airfreight forwarders, has been delivering record results; however, it requires increased financial resources and independence for international acquisitions to maintain and improve its market position.
Deutsche Bahn is now in the process of seeking concrete offers for DB Schenker, attracting potential buyers and investors given the company’s global market leadership and growth potential.
