Four key institutions unite to build MSME capacity in trade remedies and tackle unfair global trade practices effectively.

A workshop titled “Trade Remedies and MSMEs: Building Capacity for Fair Trade” was jointly organised by the Centre for Trade and Investment Law (CTIL), Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR), and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The initiative aimed to equip Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) with the knowledge and tools to engage effectively in trade remedy processes.
The workshop featured in-depth technical sessions addressing legal, procedural, and data-related challenges that hinder MSME participation in anti-dumping and safeguard investigations. Senior experts, including Shri Siddharth Mahajan (DGTR), Prof. James J Nedumpara (CTIL), Shri Anant Swarup (Former DG, DGTR), and Andrea Mastromatteo (WTO), guided the discussions.
Participants highlighted the importance of industry associations and institutional support mechanisms like the Trade Remedies Advisory Cell (TRAC). The interactive session allowed MSMEs to directly engage with regulators, emphasising the need for strong legal backing to counter unfair trade practices and ensure a level playing field in global markets.
