In a green logistics milestone, CONCOR and Adani Cement shift bulk cement transport from road to rail across India.

In a landmark move toward sustainable logistics, the Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) and Adani Cement have joined hands to launch India’s first large-scale rail-based bulk cement transport system, marking a major shift from road to rail for one of the country’s most essential building materials.
Announced on October 24, the partnership is anchored by two strategic Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at revolutionising cement logistics through the use of specialised tank containers. The initiative promises to reshape how cement moves across India—bringing cleaner, faster, and more cost-effective solutions to a traditionally road-heavy sector.
Driving a Greener Supply Chain
Under the agreement, CONCOR will deploy dedicated container rakes along key railway corridors, integrating the vast reach of Indian Railways with CONCOR’s multimodal logistics expertise. This approach is expected to significantly cut carbon emissions, reduce road congestion, and enhance overall supply chain resilience.
Officials highlighted that this transition aligns perfectly with India’s National Logistics Policy and net-zero emission goals, paving the way for a future where heavy industries can grow sustainably. By moving from diesel-heavy trucking to rail, the collaboration will not only lower transportation costs but also ensure greater reliability and efficiency across Adani Cement’s distribution network.
A Milestone in India’s Logistics Modernization
The partnership marks a defining moment in India’s logistics modernisation efforts. It sets a benchmark for scalable, sustainable bulk commodity transport that could extend beyond cement to other core industrial sectors.
Industry experts see this as a strategic inflection point, one that underscores how innovation and collaboration between public and private sectors can accelerate India’s journey toward a greener, more efficient logistics ecosystem.
Together, CONCOR and Adani Cement are not just reshaping cement logistics; they’re laying the tracks for a more sustainable and connected India.
