The CMA CGM Group has agreed to acquire the GCT Bayonne and New York terminals, which are currently owned by Global Container Terminals (GCT). According to an official release, the Port of New York and New Jersey is a key entry point serving the North-eastern United States supply chain areas and is CMA CGM’s largest gateway on the United States’ East and Gulf Coasts. “With an existing combined capacity of 2 million TEUs per year, the Bayonne and New York terminals have the potential for further expansion, up to nearly double capacity.”
While the New York Terminal benefits from a highly productive labour force in the Port of New York and New Jersey and connects the dense New York hinterland with direct trucking and intermodal access, the Bayonne Terminal has the highest level of automation, the fastest truck turn time in the harbour, the closest ocean access, and the ability to service vessels of up to 18,000 TEUs, the release stated.
“After closing, the CMA CGM Group will continue to focus on improving the quality of its service in order to meet the expectations of U.S. clients and will operate the two strategic facilities as multi-user terminals under the direction of the current management team.” Through CMA Facilities and its joint venture, Terminal Link, the business now has investments in 52 port terminals across 28 nations.
