The induction marks a transition from pilot initiatives to full-scale electric freight operations, making CJ Darcl among the first companies in India to deploy heavy-duty BEV technology.

CJ Darcl Logistics Ltd. has inducted its first heavy-duty Battery Electric Vehicle in partnership with Volvo Trucks, marking a significant step in the company’s journey towards carbon-neutral logistics operations. The vehicle is only the third heavy-duty BEV that Volvo Trucks has launched in India, placing CJ Darcl among the earliest adopters of this technology in the country’s commercial freight sector.
The induction builds on CJ Darcl’s 2024 initiative under the theme Driving Towards a Greener Tomorrow, which saw the company deploy electric vehicles for intra-city aftermarket supply in Bengaluru. The heavy-duty BEV extends this approach to higher-capacity operations. The collaboration with Volvo Trucks was developed over 18 months, involving detailed technical, route, payload, and integration assessments to ensure operational readiness before deployment in live freight conditions.
Nikhil Agarwal, President, CJ Darcl Logistics Ltd., said the company is on a mission to become carbon-neutral, and that this induction moves the company towards integrating cleaner technologies into mainstream operations. The development advances CJ Darcl’s decarbonisation strategy focused on measuring, reporting, and reducing Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, aligned with global sustainability frameworks and India’s carbon reduction ambitions.
