China imposes export controls on eight Taiwan firms as Taipei launches major military exercises.

China has imposed immediate export controls on eight Taiwan-based enterprises involved in aerospace and shipbuilding, coinciding with the start of Taiwan’s annual Han Kuang military drills. Citing national and regional security concerns, China’s Commerce Ministry announced the inclusion of these firms in its export control list, targeting dual-use goods that serve both civilian and military functions.
Among the banned companies are Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation (AIDC), Jingwei Aerospace Technology Co., and CSBC Corporation, Taiwan’s largest shipbuilder. The move restricts their access to materials and technologies from the mainland.
Taiwan’s military exercises, set to run for about ten days, are the most extensive to date, aimed at simulating defensive responses against a potential invasion by China. Beijing, which considers Taiwan a breakaway province, strongly opposes the drills.
A spokesperson from China’s Taiwan Affairs Office warned that the export restrictions are a direct response to growing separatist activities, calling them a “solemn warning” to those supporting Taiwan’s independence.
