Travelers between Chennai and Bengaluru can expect reduced journey times by at least 20 minutes as railways greenlight increased train speeds on the Arakkonam-Jolarpet route (144 km), raising limits from 110 km/h to 130 km/h. Following track and signal upgrades, the move builds upon the already enhanced Chennai-Arakkonam stretch.
The shift is particularly impactful for routes to Bengaluru, decreasing Vande Bharat travel time to around four hours and curbing journey times for Shatabdi and Brindavan Express trains. Approximately 124 trains with LHB coaches have been permitted to run at 130 km/h on this route, benefiting multiple destinations and bolstering rail competitiveness with other modes of transport.
