CBSE is contemplating biannual board exams from 2025-26, aiming to consult school principals next month.
The Ministry of Education has directed the CBSE to explore the feasibility of conducting board exams twice a year, starting from the 2025-26 academic session. While dismissing the notion of adopting a semester system, discussions between the ministry and CBSE with school principals are scheduled for the coming month to deliberate on this matter.
CBSE is currently strategising on how to structure the academic calendar to accommodate biannual board exams without disrupting the undergraduate admission process. The proposed plan suggests administering two sets of board exams annually, beginning in 2025-26. However, concrete details regarding this initiative are still under consideration.
Previously, the ministry had aimed to introduce biannual board exams from the 2024-25 academic session, but this timeline has been postponed by a year. This initiative aligns with the ministry’s vision to offer students options for appearing in board exams twice a year, aiming to reduce stress and ensure flexibility in assessment practices.
