Cathay Cargo aims to attract Indian carriers to use its Hong Kong cargo terminal.
Cathay Cargo, a division of Cathay Pacific Airways, is actively negotiating with an Indian airline to utilise its state-of-the-art cargo terminal in Hong Kong. Chief Operating Officer Mark Watts confirmed the discussions, highlighting that the terminal, with a 2.7 million tonne annual capacity, is designed to serve multiple airlines flying into Hong Kong. Although Watts did not disclose which Indian carrier is involved, he emphasised that Cathay Cargo is keen to strengthen ties with India’s aviation sector.
The terminal, spanning 100,000 square meters, is equipped for future expansion to accommodate increasing cargo demands. Watts also mentioned Cathay Cargo’s broader sustainability goals, including plans to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. The company is already using electric vehicles within the terminal and exploring the use of AI to enhance operational safety and efficiency.
Cathay Cargo views India as a key market, reflecting growing trade and manufacturing exports from the country.
