Bootes and CargoPeople unite to introduce net-zero cold storage, combating food waste in India.
Bootes, India’s pioneering net-zero construction firm, and CargoPeople, a prominent Indian multimodal logistics company, have joined forces to unveil net-zero cold storage solutions, aiming to address the pressing issue of food wastage. The initiative, underscored by Bootes’ commitment to eradicating child hunger and reducing India’s escalating energy demand through renewable sources, marks a significant step towards sustainability in the cold chain sector.
Deepak Rai, Founder and Managing Director of Bootes, emphasised the urgency of the endeavor, citing projections of increased energy consumption and potential crop wastage. He stressed the necessity of affordable cold storage solutions for farmers, aligning with the government’s net-zero 2070 objectives.
Manuj Adlakha, Founder and CEO of CargoPeople, highlighted the challenges in India’s cold chain sector, including power outages and high operational costs, which contribute to substantial food losses. Despite these obstacles, the Indian cold chain market is poised for significant growth, driven by demand and evolving consumer preferences.
Bootes Cold Chain, in collaboration with Urban Systems urbs AB (URBS), aims to leverage sustainable technologies and finance to revolutionise the Indian cold storage landscape. With a goal to attract green financing and deliver $1 billion in net-zero cold storage projects over the next five years, the collaboration anticipates a transformative impact on India’s food preservation infrastructure.
